| Hoover
Southdowns is located in Seagraves, Texas about 60 miles south of Lubbock, and was established in 1992 with the purchase of 30 mature ewes from the Temple of Colorado flock. In addition, we
acquired the Reserve National Champion Ram from the 1991 |
|
|
| Over
the next ten years our ewe flock grew significantly with influence from
herds like C.J. Robinson, Franklin Farrow, Duron Howard, and James
Steen, but the demand for quality has remained the same.
Our retained ewe lambs are grown until they are yearlings before
there are ever exposed to a ram. This
allows us a full year to evaluate which females possess the right growth,
design, and genetic characteristics to be retained within the flock.
Our ram battery is updated anytime we find a new ram with the
right bloodline to complement our ewe flock. We strive in our search for
these animals because we firmly believe that if you are not changing,
then you are being left behind. We
have used bucks from Howard, Robinson, Farrow, Steen, and Doak to name a
few. So you can bet that when we turn a buck out he has the right design
and genetic potential to improve the next lamb crop. |
Congratulations!

The results of our breeding program speak for themselves. We have raised many champion lambs over the years, and the future looks even brighter than the past. Over the years many things have changed in the Hoover flock, but the goal has remained the same. We strive to produce the “Biggest, Thickest, Most Well Balanced, and Stylish Southdowns Around”. |
