The purpose of Fitting and Showing is to create more interest in, and a better knowledge of fitting, training, handling and showing of the market lambs.

Participants:

Fitting Contest Teams will be made up of 3 individuals.
Each individual team member must be an OCLA Member.
Age – Each team must have at least one member age of 13 (as of JAN 1) or under.
Entry – Entry forms submitted to Roger Hunker’s office by:  Saturday, June 14, 2008.
            NO Entry fee is required.

Substitution – In a case of emergency a maximum of one team member may be substituted.
                        The resulting team must still meet all of the aforementioned requirements.

Contest Rules:

  • Teams will be allowed 60 minutes to complete the contest.

  • All grooming and fitting must comply with OCLA show rules.

  • Each Team Captain must check in at designated fitting area 20 minutes prior to the start of the contest. Team may bring grooming supplies at this time.

  • Each team must provide their own trimming stand, grooming supplies, clippers, blowers, etc.

  • Once the fitting area is designated for each team by the contest officials, the team may set up their trimming stand and supplies in their designated area. These items should be in place at least 5 minutes prior to the announced starting time of the contest.

  • Once the contest begins no team member may leave the area and no additional equipment may be brought into the fitting area.

  • Each team member must use the clippers.

  • Each team will be provided a market lamb. Each lamb will be rough shorn with 13 tooth comb 10 days prior to the event. With heads already done.

  • The contest will begin with each team washing their animal, then moving the animal to the official fitting area to complete the fitting of their animal.

  • The contest official will give a 30 minute remaining and a 10 minute remaining signal.

  • Upon the completion of the contest and time is called, the team will stand with the lamb until the judges get to them to review their animal. When the judges arrive, the lamb needs to be taken off of the trimming stand and presented by the team. Judges will be encouraged to ask one question per team member at this time. Each team member must answer one question.

Points will be awarded as follows:

Ability to fit - 25 points
Organization of supplies & equipment - 5 points
Participation of each team member - 10 points
Overall effect - 5 points
Knowledge & Response to Questions - 5 points

Judging will be by a three-member panel of judges based on 50 points maximum from each judge.

Each judge shall total their score and rank the contestants in numerical order on the basis of their score. (Highest score first, lowest score last.)

The rankings (not the score) of the three judges shall be added for each team, and the final placing determined by the lowest composite rankings. Actual scores will be used only to break ties. In the event the participants are still tied, they shall be named co-winners and two awards will be given for that placing and none given for the following placing.
