After much debate we have decided to have a complete dispersal of our black face club lambs and most of the southdowns. This spring has proven to be tough,{20 pl
us inches of snow in April} and we need to cut back on livestock. We will be trying something new, putting our resources into the Boer goats, working to improve the quality of those animals. It has been great being in the club lamb business and we will miss it. Mostly we will miss our customers and fellow breeders who have been the reason we had stayed in it this long.

If you thought last years show was hot, this years show was even hotter! Both the weather and the competition were turned up a notch for this years show held on July 22 at the 4-H Complex at the State Fair Grounds in Huron, SD. Judges for this years show were Kelly Bruns sheep and goats, and Brittany Kaufman the swine, they did a super job judging and keeping the show moving in the heat. A total of around 60 kids participated in the judging contest, showmanship, and exhibiting of livestock at the show. There were 61 head of swine, 33 head of lambs and 7 goats that were shown in the comeback show. At noon exhibitors and their families were treated to lunch by Stan’s Feed of Alpena. Other show sponsors included CorTrust Bank, Heartland State Bank, Quoin Bank, Dakotaland Feeds, Dar and Ken Buchholz, DeWayne Siebrasse, Lance Kuel - Pioneer Seed, Jeff Howard family, and Brett Miller family. The Showtime consignors Eric Gjerde, Steve Resler, Buchholz Club Pigs, Peterson Club Lambs, Englin Club Lambs, Gayle Begalka family, Arlan Cole, Pat O’Day family, and the Fred Krohmer family help run the show and sponsor awards also.
Over-all Sweepstakes winners were senior division first Copper Gordon, second a tie between Maryn Howard and Libby Wolkow, the first place Junior winner was Bailey Cole, second Martina Albrecht the Beginners first went to Sami Nordman, second to Baily Binger.
In the judging contest first place in the senior division was won by Amy Wolf, second Copper Gordon, third Garrett Masat, fourth Payleen O’Day and fifth Julianna Albrecht. Top judge in the Junior division was Bailey Cole, second Nate Schoenfeld, third Martina Albrecht, fourth Caitlyn Weins, and fifth Kaitlyn Ringgenberg. Beginners judging first Weston Wagner, second James Hurlburt, third Mitchell VanderWal, fourth Wyatt James, and fifth Sami Nordman.
Coming out on top as Champion in the swine show was Blake Kennedy from class 9 cross-bred gilt. Reserve Champion swine went to Maryn Howard with a purebred Duroc barrow from class 3. Class winners were as follows: Purebred Barrows Class 1 first Justin Haven, second Sadie VanderWal Class 2 first Sadie VanderWal, second Wyatt James, Class 3 Maryn Howard, second Sami Nordman, Purebred Gilts class 4 first Libby Wolkow, second Blake Kennedy, class 5 first Drew Dennert, second Baily Binger, Cross-bred Barrows class 6 first Caitlin Ringgenberg, second Baily Blake, class 7 first Libby Wolkow, second Zach Miller, Cross-bred Gilts class 8 first Copper Gordon, second Jamie Begalka, class 9 first Blake Kennedy, second Maryn Howard.
Champion Lamb went to Copper Gordon with a lamb bought from Englin Livestock. The Reserve Champion lamb was shown by Albrecht Sisters and was purchased from Peterson Club Lambs. The class winners are as follows; class 1 first DeVries Family, second Bailey Cole, class 2 first Jake Krommer second Reider Family, class 3 first Adrian Schaunaman second Albrecht Sisters, class 4 first Copper Gordon, second Albrecht Sisters, class 5 first Albrecht Sisters, second Reider Family.
The Goat show the Champion market goat was shown by Payleen O’Day and the Reserve Champion went to Bailey Cole. Class winners were class 1 Carissa Scheel first, Ethan Butzman second, class 2 Payleen O’Day first, Bailey Cole second.
In the showmanship contest for the swine Senior winners were first Maryn Howard, second Libby Wolkow, Junior showmen first Sadie VanderWal, she also won the special award sponsored by the Brett and Tammy Miller family for the top junior swine showman in memory of their daughter Samantha, second Caitlin Ringgenberg, Beginners first Lane Schoenfeld, second Sami Nordman. The sheep showmanship winners were Senior Talyn Albrecht, second Cooper Gordon, Junior first Whitney Reider, second Adrian Schaunaman, Beginners first Sami Nordman, second Elaina DeVries, and the Pee Wees 8 and under Carissa Scheel first, second Jayla Murphy. The goat showmanship the Senior first was Ethan Butzman, second Payleen O’Day, Juniors first Bailey Cole second Caitlyn Weins, and Beginners first Carissa Scheel.
New this year was an award of a $300 scholarship for a senior show exhibitor in the swine show who will be attending collage or is attending collage now. This award is sponsored by Caitlin Howard and her fiancé Clae Hoots, the winner was Libby Wolkow. Congratulations to all the exhibitors at the show and good luck at State Fair. |

Showtime Classic Comeback Show a Hot One
The Showtime Classic Comeback Show held on July 17th was a hot one in Huron at the State Fair Grounds. Fifty-three kids participated in a judging contest, showmanship contests and showed 104 head of swine, lambs and goats in the show, for over $5500 in prizes and money given out. Sweepstake prize money was also awarded to those who accumulated the most points during the day from participating in all the events. The Sweepstake winners for the Senior division were: Cooper Gordon 1st, Libby Wolkow 2nd, and Kaylee Cole 3rd, in the Junior division: Carly Wheeting 1st, Kaitlyn Ringgenberg 2nd, and Ethan DeVries 3rd, the Beginner division: Bailey Cole 1st, Carissa Scheel 2nd, and Bailey Binger 3rd.
In the judging contest the top five Seniors were Kaylee Cole 1st, Nathan Wright 2nd, Ashley Tolleffson 3rd, Libby Wolkow 4th, and Sheila Price 5th. In the Junior division placing were Kay Leen O’Day 1st, Carly Wheeting 2nd, Kaitlyn Ringgenberg 3rd, and Ethan DeVries 4th. The Beginner judging winners were Carissa Scheel 1st, Bailey Cole 2nd, Bailey Binger 3rd, Denver Nordman 4th, and Mitchell VanderWal 5th.
On the show side of events the Champion Swine went to Libby Wolkow, with the Reserve Champion Swine going to Cooper Gordon, in a very strong market hog show. Cooper Gordon also was the Champion Lamb, and the Reserve Champion Lamb honors went to Kahlie Eckmann. New this year was the Market Goat show, the Champion Market Goat was shown by Amy Wolff, and the Reserve Goat went to Taylor Sinkie. In the showmanship contest the top swine honors went to Senior Luke Holt, Junior Carly Wheeting, and Beginner Bailey Cole. The lamb showmanship was won by Senior Kahlie Eckmann, Junior Carly Wheeting, and Beginner Baliey Cole. Goat showmanship the Senior winner was Amy Wolff, Junior Kay Leen O’Day and Beginner Taryn Sinkie.

We purchased this ram at the 2007 Mid West Stud Ram Sale from Slack Club
Lambs Manchester, IN. He is out of a Garrett ram which is a Caesar son,
he is a stout made big hipped ram that should put some power in his
lambs. We are excited to see his 2008 lamb crop.

This is a Dog X Deuce ram we
purchased at the Midwest Stud Ram Sale from Middlesworth
Club Lambs. He is young ram that shows a lot of potential
for being a good one. We will be using him on a few ewes for
2010 lambs.
Do to an unfortunate accident we lost this ram right after breeding season, we hope that his 2010 lambs will be as promising as he was. |

This ram was purchased late last fall 2006 from Jake Petzenhauser. He
has all the right breeding, a grandson of the Governor ram and out of a
Hancock bred ewe. We used him late last year and were pleased with
his lambs, so we will be using him for some January lambs this year. |

Purchased at the A-Team Sale, "Ultimate" is from Hancock Hampshires out of Ultra x Hancock 8058( a full sister to Derby). This ram should click great with our ewes giving us the Ultimate show lambs next season. Owned jointly with John & Sally Fastert
Do to the fact that we are
cutting back on the amount of ewes we will be lambing out this year we
are letting go of this proven ram. We had all ready purchased more rams
before deciding to cut back .With less ewes around we are over powered
with rams, your gain is our loss. |

"Boost" we bought this ram last
summer from Double F Club Lambs of Winchester, KY. He was sired by "DNA"
who's full sister was the damn to Cabaniss' high selling wether sire at
the Midwest Stud Ram Sale
and out of one of Double F's best "Powerline" daughters. We are
using him on half of our ewes for our 2006 lamb crop. This ram has sired Grand & Reserve State Fair Champions for us in 2005. He has added
an extra Boost to our club lamb flock!!!
After retaining two years worth of daughters from "Boost" we are
offering him for sale. Boost has done a tremendous job making great ewes
as well as some champion wethers. |

Something different has arrived at our farm!! My
daughter Hanna and I have started a small Southdown flock for her
4-H project in 2009. We currently have ewes and ewe lambs with genetics
from Northern Star Livestock, Bullington, Fuller and Parmely. All of the
southdowns have been tested and are RR or QR and NN. We are
excited about the bred ewe purchased on the Industry's Elite Bred Ewe
sale from NSLS she is bred to their ram "New Generation" can't wait till
she lambs. We should have some nice wethers for sale out of these ewes,
watch for pictures on our web page.
We recently had the opportunity to
purchase several ewes from Jake Petzenhauser early this December {2007}
that should add a new level to our flock. These ewes are some of his
best that he did not have room for in his recent move. We are excited to
see the lambs from this purchase, Thank you Jake.
We have decided to cut back the
amount of ewes we will be lambing out in 2008 due to space and time
limits. Because of this we are no longer leasing the VanWell ewes. We
will be culling our own ewes and keeping only our best producers and
lambing out a select set of ewe lambs. Please feel free to contact us
